The Thrilla in Manila

I need everybody's help on this one. My wife feels that it is a sin to get a tattoo. In the old testament it says you should not mark your body. Which I get but the real argument is over the validity of the old testament itself. Is the old testament still applicable today or is it just something meant to be studied for historical purposes? I heard a very good argument about tattoos that goes something like this. In the old testament not tattooing your body was more of a public health issue for god than a you'll go to hell type of thing. So if you have an opinion or just some insight about this issue please click comment and write an answer. Also vote on the poll question so I can keep track. Please ask around on this one or send a link to everybody you know. The greater the response the more definitive the answer.

Just for health reasons alone, I'll definitely say NO to tattoos.

The old testament does apply in some ways buy we don't sacrifice our children to God anymore do we. I would take the old testament with a grain of salt as it is used more as a reference than anything else. The New Testament changed all the rules anyway. The whole Christ dying for your sins thing put a wrench in the whole Old Testament. Check into the parlor to make sure they are sanitary, and tattoo away. Don't go for the cheaper parlors, this is a place were paying a lottle more is a good thing. The main thing to remember is what ever you get will be on your body for the rest of your life. My rule of thumb is, if I find a design that I like, I wait a year. That way if you think of any changes you want to make to the design you do it before you have it in your skin. It will also hopefully keep you from regreting you Tattoo. I have done this ever since I got my first Tattoo 17 years ago, and 18 Tattoos later I still like them all.

1 Corinthians 6:19 tells us this:

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;"

If you feel that decorating your own temple will glorify God then I think it's fine.

Personally, I'd go the safe route and leave the temple decorated as it is. :)
